During EURONET 50/50 project we collected used batteries, because we knew that when left on illegal waste dumps they can seriously harm the environment. We also run respective information campaign for parents and citizens.

Sustainable energy usage has always been school priority and our teachers defined and developed the Green Code of Conduct and after lessons they always switch off the light in the classrooms. The central heating reduces temperature after classes. At the beginning of the project  bulbs in the classrooms were changed to energy efficient ones. All students were informed about school policy and had possibility to join all the green activities.

On school website there were special section provided for EURONET 50/50, which presented main objectives of the project and activities that were implemented. They were also described in the local press “The news of Bielawa”.

Activities

During the “Day of Earth” the champions of photo, art and multi-media presentation (“I save water, I save electricity”) competitions were awarded by the mayor of Bielawa. Moreover the Ecological Sport Day was organized with the use of recyclable materials.

Our school is very active in ecological initiatives. Every September we participate in “Cleaning the World” campaign. It is good possibility for students to show their interest in protecting the planet and territory of the municipality environment.  Parents and citizens of Bielawa are always very willing to help the students.

On Science, Math, Polish, IT, History, Art lessons we talked  about energy saving and renewable energy sources. We also learnt how to calculate the energy consumption. We had brainstorming connected with energy efficiency and during the discussion students could share their own ideas. Then there was a competition organized on the best poster and photo showing how we care about environment. We prepared the exhibition of all posters made by pupils, it was available for everybody.  We prepared colorful stickers and put them near the light switches and water taps in order to remember about how important energy saving is.

We also prepared wall newspaper about EURONET 50/50 project and saving energy.  It was very popular among students of every age. We used old newspaper and recyclable materials to make our message more up-front and convincing.  On school corridors’ walls there were  instructive posters displayed, made by students of different grades (levels). They presented rules of energy, water and gas  saving and how to implement them in everyday life.
